CREDIT RATING
(кредитный рейтинг) Оценка платежеспособности частного лица или фирмы, т.е. вероятности возвращения ими кредита. Традиционно, конфиденциальные справки о платежеспособности заемщиков предоставляли банки, однако с недавних пор наблюдается рост агентств по кредитной информации (credit-reference agencies) (также известных под названием агентств по рейтингу (rating agencies)), которые собирают информацию из многочисленных источников, среди которых-окружные суды, дела о банкротствах, компании, занятые сдачей товаров в аренду с опционом их покупки-и профессиональные взыскатели долгов. Затем собранная информация за определенную плату предоставляется заинтересованным клиентам. По закону о потребительском кредите (1974 г.) , потребитель получил некоторую защиту от действий таких агентств: частное лицо имеет право получить копию всей касающейся его информации, собранной агентствами, а также потребовать корректировки ошибок и неточностей. Существуют также агентства, специализирующиеся на корпорационном секторе, т.е. собирающие и предоставляющие информацию о долгосрочных и краткосрочных задолженностях компаний. Такая информация оказывает чрезвычайно большое влияние на курс акций компании, ее возможности привлекать заемные средства и на ее репутацию в деловых кругах.
